Welcome to Nyungu Yamawe
A place to slow down, explore and enjoy being close to nature
Located in Kira, off Bulindo Road at Kitukutwe Trading Centre, Nyungu Yamawe Forest Park brings together the beauty of a forest, the calm of the water, good food, African culture, outdoor activities and spaces where people can simply spend time together.
For us, Nyungu Yamawe is more than a park. It is a place where people can experience something different from the usual city routine.
Our Story
Born from a love for nature and African heritage
Nyungu Yamawe was created out of a love for nature and a desire to create a space where people can experience Uganda's natural beauty and African heritage in a relaxed and enjoyable way.
The name Nyungu Yamawe is connected to the history of Nyungu ya Mawe, the famous Nyamwezi leader whose story is part of the wider history of East Africa. That history inspires much of what we do and the way we have created the space.
As you walk around the park, you will find places that reflect African culture and traditions while still giving you the comfort and freedom to enjoy yourself. We want our visitors to see, feel and experience a part of Africa rather than simply hear about it.

A Place to Get Away
Breathe, walk among the trees, listen to the birds
Life in the city can be busy. Sometimes you just need somewhere to go where you can breathe, walk among the trees, listen to the birds and spend time with people you care about. That is what Nyungu Yamawe is about.
You can come for a walk through the forest, enjoy a meal, relax by the water, have a picnic, spend time outdoors, stay overnight, or take part in one of the many activities around the park. There is always something to discover, whether you are visiting for the first time or coming back for another experience.
Explore the Forest
The forest is at the heart of Nyungu Yamawe
There are trails to explore, birds and monkeys to see, places to sit and relax, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. For people who love being active, there are activities such as cycling, tree climbing and forest adventures.
For others, the best part may simply be finding a quiet place under the trees and enjoying the surroundings. You do not have to rush here — take your time and experience the forest at your own pace.
Enjoy the Water
The boat ride — simple, memorable, unforgettable
One of the experiences that makes Nyungu Yamawe special is the boat ride. Getting to the boat takes a little effort, but that is part of the fun — the walk and the anticipation make reaching the water feel like part of the adventure.
Once you get on the boat, everything changes. You can relax, enjoy the breeze, look around at the beautiful surroundings and have a good time on the water — simple but memorable, especially when shared with friends and family.
Food, Events & Good Times
A place to eat, meet people and enjoy yourself
Our restaurant and café give visitors a chance to enjoy food in a natural setting, while our event spaces provide a beautiful environment for celebrations, weddings, corporate activities, music, cultural events and other gatherings.
There is something special about enjoying a good meal or listening to music when you are surrounded by trees and nature.
A Place for Everyone
Family, friends, workmates — or just you
You might come with your family, your friends, your partner, your workmates or even on your own. You might come looking for adventure, or just want somewhere peaceful to relax. You might be celebrating a special occasion or looking for somewhere different to spend your weekend.
Whatever brings you here, our hope is that you leave feeling that your time was well spent.
